A good tool help none Chinese speaking people learn the pronunciation of pinyin – Learning Chinese

I’ve been asked a lot about how do Cantonese-speakers write. Before you get to know the answer, you need to understand that there are two systems of language Hong Kong people use in their daily life – spoken language (Cantonese) and written language (Traditional Chinese). How not to mix it up with Mandarin and Simplified Chinese? What are the similarities and differences?

This super-short guide to Mandarin pronunciation is for those that aim to quickly be able to pronounce the phrases in our travel phrasebook. We use ‘pinyin’, which is the standard alphabet for writing Chinese words with English letters.

During my first month in Fuqing, a Chinese colleague had given me a handwriting textbook written for Chinese kindergartners, and a grid-lined notepad, specifically designed for writing characters. At the time, I was diligent in my Chinese studies, but had decided to focus my studying around pinyin (Chinese Romanization) rather than learning to write the characters.
