Whore of the Orient: Shanghai is a transitive verb – Arts & Entertainment
http://www.chinatravel.net –Paris of the East. Whore of the Orient. Sin City. "Hypercity". Population 20 million. The largest city in the world's most populated country. A transitive verb. To shanghai:transitive verb. [shanghaied, shanghaiing]
1. To kidnap for compulsory service aboard a ship, especially after drugging.
2.To induce or compel (someone) to do something, especially by fraud or force.
I remember my first impressions of Shanghai. It was a freezing cold early evening in late January 2007. My brother loaded my bags in the back of a taxi and we sped off from the airport. I stared out the windows as the skyscrapers loomed above. Everything seemed fierce, harsh, cold, sinister, natureless, unwelcoming and unabashed. A landscape of towering, menacing buildings, lit with all manner of flashing lights.

Poor Chinatravel can't get any thumbnail-love.

Yeah, ChinaTravel keeps getting ChinaSmacked! Maybe time to pick a different thumbnail generator Ryan? This one obviously is not working right.

How to Get Married in China
Had to change the thumbnail generator from websnapr to ShrinkTheWeb because I was hitting websnapr's free limits (and not really up for paying $50/mo. for the premium service).
ShrinkTheWeb only captures the site's base page (so haohaoreport.com, not haohaoreport.com/upcoming or whatever). The ChinaTravel.net site was apparently captured wrong for some reason, and is now in the ShrinkTheWeb database incorrectly (thumbs aren't dynamically loaded, they're generated once and then cached). I've contacted ShrinkTheWeb and hopefully they'll be able to fix the problem.
Sorry ChinaTravel.net.
Wow - they're fast. Fixed.
Excellent. I have also noticed that some sites simply have a box that says invalid URL when that is obviosuly not true.

So Ryan, you're telling me this site isn't raking in enough dough for you to invest a measly $50 for a thumbnail generator?

$50 one-time wouldn't be a huge problem, but the premium services for thumbnail generation are $50/month - would exponentially increase operating costs. And despite it's flashy looks and awesome community - HHR is still very much a labour of love. It brings in very little "real" revenue.
Ha! Yea, I saw that. $50 a month IS asking a lot. Despite the jest, though, your "labor of love" is a nice piece of work. Keep it up, Ryan.
