Chinese police have detained 10 people in connection with the collapse of an underground railway tunnel being built for next year's Olympic Games in Beijing.

Six workers were reported to have been killed when the tunnel caved in last Wednesday.

State media has reported that the construction firm waited at least eight hours before reporting the accident to the authorities.

It is claimed that the company mounted an elaborate cover-up and tried to rescue the trapped workers on its own.

HR in China is always a challenge, and the last few years has brought an enormous amount of foreign talent to China, some good and some not.

Amid reports of the collapse of the middle schools during the Sichuan earthquakes, the blame of corruption and bad government officials have been focused on China. Here, we are reminded that such corrupt practices are present in our own backyard as well. A few bad seeds, poor funding, under paid staff and no oversight can cause the same problems in any country.

Over the more recent past, we have seen the increasing strength of domestic Chinese companies, resulting in greater outward investment and reduction of incentives for foreign investors in China. It will be interesting to watch and work in this rapidly-changing global market.
