Its a WFOE not a WOOF EE!
I am sure that this confusion started with the insistence on woofing like a dog in an attempt to simply the otherwise long moniker when referring to the entity in conversation.
But then again, referring to it as a WaFOO EE just doesn’t sound as good.

Most of the China law blogs have been highlighting debates about what sort of entity (WFOE or JV) to form when your clients decide to enter China. But CNN ran an interesting article yesterday that focuses on Chinese investment coming to set up shop in the U.S.--in other words, the exact opposite.

For the Chinese businesses looking for attorneys: don’t look for the cheapest rates and then demand discounts. Trust me, you won’t be happy with those services and those attorneys are not going to be happy with you. Like many things in life, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Another news story that confirms to me the need for all people to be well versed in the use of WFOE’s and JV’s as investment vehicles for China. This one is is from the BBC and talks about how foreign investment grew 38.3% from a year earlier (which is a pretty astounding number if you ask me)

As Steve Dickinson very concisely summarizes in this recent post on China Law Blog, the government is actively expanding their control over foreign investment in China’s real estate market. That isn’t to say that real estate is completely off limits for foreign players, but rather that the Central Government has put themselves in a position where they can disapprove or delay projects completely at their own discretion.

I have a feeling those who in favor of free trade, which does bring a heavy benefit to China and has helped sustain its burgeoning economy, will be supporting John McCain this November. If Obama does end up being protectionist, it won’t help China.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports on the 'self-defense' incident in Tibet earlier this week.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer, "Sazanami", docked in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, today - marking the first time since World War II that a Japanese warship has visited China.
