'China's dam builders will press ahead with controversial plans to build a cascade of hydropower plants in one of the country's most spectacular canyons, it was reported today, in an apparent reversal for prime minister Wen Jiabao.

There's been a huge amount of press about this in architecture circles, namely the 'green stadium' concept. One that wasn't chosen. Here I provide some local background on Dalian's stadiums.

It would be easy to write a post about the difference between Malaysia and China and point to the joys of multiculturalism and democracy. However it wasn’t these things that jumped out most at me during my travels, instead it was the simple joy of being reminded of the abundance of life outside of the human race.

Poor weather conditions this year are partly responsible. But putting the blame on them overlooks the role played by the colossal Three Gorges reservoir, 500km upstream. The cause and effect is still not officially recognised, even if the government did admit last May that the planet's biggest dam had given rise to "problems that need to be solved very urgently".
