Beijing protests as Japan arrests China boat captainChina News

www.reuters.comJapan has arrested the captain of a Chinese fishing boat that collided with two Japanese coast guard boats near disputed islets in the East China Sea, causing anger in Beijing and reigniting territorial tensions. China's Foreign Ministry lodged a "strong protest" against the captain's arrest on Wednesday, with Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue summoning Japan's ambassador for the second time in two days, Xinhua news agency said.

It seems like Japan needs to cultivate a spine when it comes to dealing with China. Appeasing Beijing achieves nothing in the medium-term.

Looks like Japan is being calm and rational about this matter. The Japanese Coast Guard says they have video showing the Chinese fishing boat ramming the two Japanese Coast Guard ships. The PLA Navy and China's fishing fleets are known to closely cooperate - could this have been a set-up?
