China's State Council, or Cabinet, passed a long awaited medical reform plan which promised to spend 850 billion yuan (123 billion U.S. dollars) by 2011 to provide universal medical service to the country's 1.3 billion population.

Anybody who's been to the hospital in Chengdu knows what a drag it can be. Long lines, or worse, no lines at all and a free-for-all rush to get into the doctor's office, little or no privacy, bureaucracy and paperwork and payment systems that baffle even the locals ... but now some of Chengdu's blogging doctors have an alternative.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - Nearly half of all births in China are delivered by cesarean section, the world's highest rate according to a survey by the World Health Organization, which warned Tuesday that a boom in unnecessary surgeries is jeopardizing women's health.
