Paul Denlinger at China Vortex shares some good commentary on this week's Economist lead article about China. Essentially the article states that the angry nationalism that has swept China isn't actually at Western nations and Western media's continual mis-representation of the country, but rather misguided anger towards the gov't. Paul disagrees.
I wonder if other expats learn about their vacated lives past and present as I do? I view time compressed, via boxed sets of information that arrive in emails, letters, DVD’s and Internet entries.
Here's an interview I recently did with Neocha SEO Sean Leow. Sean gives us the low-down on the changing Chinese creative landscape as well as talking about his company, Neocha - a social network of creative Chinese who upload everything from pictures to music.
Also in the article are links to Neocha's cool NEXT player, which streams non-stop independent Chinese music free for all to listen to. Let it never be said again that China doesn't have any "good" music.

Found this article thanks to http://madaboutshanghai.blogs.com, and it's just nuts. Parents are offering cosmetic surgery as an incentive for their kids to do well on college entrance exams. Big on the list of bod-mods is labial reduction... aparently a big problem with today's Chinese teens.
Article features an excellent interview with China's Zhang Shan, a shooting gold medalist from the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Zhang says Chinese athletes sacrifice their own lives to 'contribute' to China. She also says that home ground advantage may not necessarily be a good thing.
This post from Angry Chinese Blogger details the Chinese response (and a good deal of related history) to the British government's recent report "encouraging" Beijing to step up and make good on its promises to introduce full democracy in the UK's former colony of Hong Kong. A good backgrounder for anyone curious about HK affairs.
