After seeing Carl Pei’s article over at To Be Rich Is To Be Glorious, I had to follow-up with my own list with some taken from his as well.

A woman in Nanjing, China fell off a sixth floor balcony and survived thanks to a pile of poop on the ground below. From Sky News:

"She landed in a 20cm thick heap of excrement," the Kuaibao tabloid newspaper gleefully reported.

"Workers happened to be emptying the building's septic tank, which had not been tended for a long time, and had regularly blocked sewage pipes.

Either society isn't yet harmonious enough, or the prospect of increased disharmony has increased to such a level Beijing has decided to take action. I happened upon a podcast interview over at Thomas Crampton’s blog of Duncan Hewitt, veteran China correspondent and best-selling author of Getting Rich First, who thinks that money and angry people will play a growing role in the battle against China’s Great Firewall. Though I agree with his commentary, I think the biggest thing he neglects to mention is how technology could really change the outcome of Chinese Internet censorship (USBs are already a favorite in Cuba to spread information).

It’s only been a month since BBC’s English-language news website was unblocked by Net Nanny for the first time in the three years that I’ve been in China with regular web access.

And now today, more astonishingly, the BBC’s Chinese language news site has also been unblocked, quite possibly for the first time in the history of the Interwebs.
