One should be careful to equate fast growth, large numbers, and impressive actions with that of how China will overtake other first world nations in the near future. Strong growth now, does not mean it will continue to do so in the future.

Like I figured, the stock market growth hasn't been fueled by bored Chinese housewives and taxi cab drivers punting on the market but by corrupt government officials, the army and police who provide two thirds of the cash. This won't end well for anyone..

"A temporary drop below $25 is possible if the global recession extends to China." said Merrill Lynch. It said the main downside risk to its estimates is the Chinese economy. Its economists currently forecast 8.6% growth for the world's second-largest economy next year.

Right when I finally post something somewhat negative about the health of the Chinese economy, another news piece goes ahead and tells us what we probably don’t want to hear: that some of the explosive growth (a bubble?) that we had been expecting is slowing down.

What can I say but this article is hilarious. Here's a sample:

Just because the stock market bubble burst, does this mean China is in dire circumstances? No way. Even with an inflated figure of 10% growth, China’s economy has far more resistance than what all of the doom-and-gloom media outlets have been saying.

Prospective buyers of home appliances in rural China are pleasantly surprised to find lower-than-expected amounts in the price tags. China's leaders hope that millions of rural residents will buy appliances in the coming months, to stimulate consumption and to keep the factories producing at a time when global markets are down and domestic sales growth has declined.
