This Reuters article gives the run-down on what the government is doing to educate Chinese tourists on how to act while on holiday. The etiquette campaign was announced as the country hit the two-year-out mark from the Beijing 2008 Olympics. It is feared that domestic tourists' bad manners may give people the wrong opinion about China.

With every laowai writing their opinions about seeing the "poor" table and public manners of the Chinese around them, it's refreshing to read a post that tackles the topic from a historical perspective, and also does it in answer to a concerned Chinese reader.

A great post over at The Granite Studio giving some historic perspective on why the CPC may not be too eager to change the status quo of corruption throughout the country. The post raises some good questions about whether international pressure may force the CPC's hand in sweeping out the corrupt - regardless of the political consequences.

Well, after weeks of disappearing from the grid, J.'s Granite Studio is pumping out more great entries. The latest deals with the idea that China has long been a "closed" culture and only recently, through pressures and methodology from the West, has opened. (CNN) -- Fifteen U.S. House members asked President Bush Tuesday not to attend the Olympic Games in Beijing to protest China's human rights records.

The call follows comments from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who earlier said Bush should boycott the August 8 opening ceremony.

President Bush has said he intends to meet China's president during a trip to see the Olympics. Bush didn't elaborate on what issues he might bring up, but his administration has accused China, a major U.S. trade partner, of human rights abuses.
