Happy New Year, we're back online!

Mid-December HHR's domain came up for renewal, and with hosting expiring next month, I figured I'd just do a quick transfer rather than dealing with everything twice.

"Quick" turned out to be quite the subjective term, and delay after delay caused the site to remain down for most of the last half of the month.

This was caused in part due to the length of time it takes to transfer a domain (5 days for some stupid reason), as well as the time it takes to propagate through the various servers that populate the Internet.

But the big issue was simply that I'm away from a reliable Internet connection. I've currently one day left on my holiday in Canada, showing my Chinese wife what it "is" to have a real Christmas. And though I always bitch and complain about China's connectivity (and GFW), I've had trouble getting online here.

So, thanks again everyone for your patience. We're back, so be sure to get your votes cast and your stories posted!

We've turned off anonymous voting (the ability for all site visitors to vote on stories) and limited it to registered users for the time being.

The idea behind the Hao Hao Report is to have a method for all of us to quickly find the best and most interesting posts and news reports about China.

It has always been the policy of HHR to allow users to submit articles from their own blogs, as a way of both promoting their blog and exposing the community to diverse sources of commentary and information.

According to estimates from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Beijing research firm BDA and the online market anlayst Nielsen/NetRatings, China has overtaken the US in the number of internet users at around 220 million. These numbers were estimated based on the online growth of 53.3% in 2007. The number on online users is expected to reach 280 million or more by the end of this year.

A 26-year-old 'man' in Shanghai has just forfeited any chances at Dad of the Year by throwing his 10-month-old daughter out an eighth-storey window.

Amazingly the girl survived with only a broken leg, but early reports suggest she's taken back her Father's Day card. The guy was drunk and arguing with his mother-in-law at the time.
