A couple weeks ago I was shopping for a pair of sneakers near Shanghai's Zhongshan Park and came across what appeared to be an Air Jordan sportswear outlet. I was thrilled when I saw the low prices on the merchandise inside, figuring the place must be a brand discount store like the ones Nike has elsewhere in the city. So I started looking for a pair of sneaks to try on. I looked at each model.

Entrepreneurial success stories might rank only behind love stories in universal appeal. Who doesn't want to earn big money, and at the same time become a hero by creating jobs, products and services that people need?

15 years ago, the toughest part of getting a taxi in Beijing was finding a driver who was awake. The Chinese capital was much slower paced then, and cabbies would often follow up their lunch with a one or two hour siesta. The hours of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. were a taxi wasteland, unless you were willing to risk waking a snoozing driver.
