In the latest Lost Laowai post I find a bit of new hope for my otherwise jaded opinion towards free thought in China. It comes, oddly enough, in the form of a CCTV anchorman. He's no Ron Burgundy, but he's pretty cool none-the-less.

Whether he's telling Starbucks to get the hell out of the Forbidden City or telling Chinese to get the hell over their problems with the Japanese - CCTV's Rui Chenggang has thoughts that work outside the rinse-read-repeat system so common among China's "intellectuals".

The keepers of the official Confucius (孔子) family tree have announced that in addition to now including women in the lineage, they will also be including those Confucians that have stumbled into being laowai. Check out the review of the news at the insightful Useless Tree blog.

Fast and efficient travel for business people within the APEC region contributes to APEC’s goal of free and open trade and investment. To this end APEC has created an APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC). The ABTC allows business travelers pre-cleared, facilitated short-term entry to participating member economies. The ABTC removes the need to individually apply for visas or entry permits, saving valuable time, and allows multiple entries into participating economies during the three years the card is valid.
