Dan at Talk Talk China writes an excellent post about how when dealing with Chinese people, usually you're going to get screwed, but they're not to blame... you are. Just read the fine print.

I greatly respect and admire Chinese culture. I may not always agree with the politics or the attitudes that I encounter (in fact I often do not) but I am grateful for the opportunity to live here and immerse myself in the culture. I was thinking about my favorite aspects of Chinese culture.

Here a few of my thoughts; feel free to add more.

It is not easy to realize how strange it is when you live in an existing system, but when you have the chance to talk with people from other countries, you realize the huge difference. I enjoyed my talk with my great friends tonight, and we talked about the Resident Permit (Hokou) system in China. To be honest, I didn't feel it too strange before I explained it with my own mouth.

Chinese netizens talk about pictures showing post-90s generation Chinese students during military training, comparing their behavior to previous generations.

In a country where every truth is a lie and every lie is a truth, it can be near impossible to figure out what is what. This latest LLW post tries to make sense of it all.

I don't know about the rest of you but all this talk of melamine got me wondering what (other than the catch-term of the month) it is. This blog post gives a run down of what it is, what it does and why it's used. And lets you know you're all going to die - but you knew that already.

Danwei reports a new book has been rushed to completion that lays bare the "truth" behind the Lhasa riots last month. The book "Lies and the Truth" cites such reliable and truth-worthy sources as People's Daily, Guangming Daily, China News, and Xinhuanet... handy at a road-side pitstop I'm sure.
