It's common knowledge that under the command of Zheng He, the Ming Dynasty conquered Europe in 1421 (http://www.white-collar.net/01-author/l/60-liu_cx/008.htm ), so they could have made it to the pole.

The Russians, as do the Canadians and Nordic countries all have at least a remote claim to the area... the Chinese? Bah! Not unless Zheng He had a fleet of steel-covered junks!
