HHR Submission Guidelines/Spam Policy, and how you can help out

For most spam there's no question that it is the scum of the net and deserves to quickly be cast into the bowels of HHR hell. However, I recognize that there is somewhat of a grey area when it comes to what the good peoples of the world consider "spam", and as such I've created these Submission guidelines and a Spam Policy/FAQ for guidance on the matter.

Until now there wasn't much the community could do to help with spam submissions, and you all had to wait for me to get my ass in gear to clean it up. Now I've set things up so that if a submission gets 3 negative votes (a vote count of -2 or below) it will disappear from the active listings and be queued for moderation by an admin (ie. myself). So, if you see spam on the HHR, please vote it down. Cheers!

Right so, some of you may have noticed the little spam attack on here earlier today/yesterday. Even with full registration and all that enabled, dickwads like this get through. I've cleaned up the mess and will be looking into tighter security asap. Well, the redesign is done. Hopefully everything works. Let me know if you notice any problems.

I'm still working on a solution for the constant spam that gets on here. It's a tough battle, as HHR is set up only to allow users to submit (to help stop spam), and also has a captcha security feature to stop robots... but people are persistent. I'm pretty quick about cleaning it up, but if I'm taking too long - hit the contact button in the sidebar and let me know.

HHR News: Anonymous voting? 39 weeks 12 hours ago

We've turned off anonymous voting (the ability for all site visitors to vote on stories) and limited it to registered users for the time being.

The idea behind the Hao Hao Report is to have a method for all of us to quickly find the best and most interesting posts and news reports about China.

It has always been the policy of HHR to allow users to submit articles from their own blogs, as a way of both promoting their blog and exposing the community to diverse sources of commentary and information.
