The on ly issue I have is intermittent hangs when voting. I will click either "+" or "-" and it hangs at a faded white and I cannot vote on any other story unless I refresh. But that has been a problem for a week or two.

The new server seems to be a bit slower for me in the States. The site can take up to a minute to load on my rather fast cable modem connection.

Hi Nik, I'll look into the javascript problem. As to the server speed, there may be a slight increase in load time as the new servers are in Asia. It was a tough decision to make, but due to the nature of the site, I figured having it Asia-based made more sense. Plus, China-based visitors seem to have a helluva time reaching the US datacenter I rent space on... might just be the datacenter, but until I find a solution the Asia-based server is the only way I can go.

Can you do me a favour though and ping the site and post the speeds here. If other users can as well (from all countries), that'd be great. Simply follow the following process:

Bring up the RUN dialog box in Windows (sorry, I only know how to do this in Windows), type in "cmd" (without the quotes) to bring up the Command Prompt. At the command prompt type "ping haohaoreport.com" (again, sans quotes). This will show four lines of "pings" and then a summary. Please post here the Packets: Sent = X, Received = X, Lost = X (X% loss) line and the Minimum = XXms, Maximum = XXms, Average = XXms line.

I forgot to mention it in my last reply, but I completely understand your reasoning. I just wanted to let you know what is up here. I have the same issue with many servers in The Soviet Union Russia that my Russian orthodox friends host on too.

Your pings don't really account for the long load times, as <300ms shouldn't hurt your speed too much. I mean, if you were streaming video or something maybe, but for a simple database-driven site like HHR, it should load alright.

Will look into seeing if maybe the site's just loaded with too many processes. First up though - sorting out why nobody's stories are showing up despite being "published".

Yeah, I noticed that too. I am sometimes waiting a minute for the page to load when I first come to the page for the day. But the waits are even longer when I submit something. But at least my posts are appearing when I post them now, so you are making some improvement on this issue! :-)
